We are proud to announce that Susan and Jeff Turner are the first health-care providers in California to meet the requirements and to be certified as Ayurvedic Doctors by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.
The Turners established Living Ayurveda in 1998 to provide quality, personalized, compassionate, hands-on health care for patients seeking non-pharmaceutical alternatives to manage chronic conditions.
They understand the frustration that many people have experienced with the impersonal, hurried healthcare that is all too common today. Providing a safe, comfortable, professional environment that allows and encourages each client to actively participate in their own healthcare is essential to creating truly good health.
The Turners are medical educators teaching programs in the California State University system and various Ayurvedic schools in the U.S. They have authored numerous articles in medical journals and health magazines.
Susan and Jeff began their Ayurvedic studies with Dr. Vasant Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1995. The Ayurvedic Institute is the oldest and largest Ayurvedic school in the country and continues to set the standard for quality education. They completed the four year program in 1999.
They also studied with Dr. Sunil Joshi, renowned Panchakarma expert, from 1995-1999.
Additional teachers of Ayurveda include Dr. David Frawley, a formidable scholar in Ayurveda and Vedic science, and Vyas Houston, a well known Sanskrit educator and founder of the American Sanskrit Institute.
Ayurveda is a life-long study and the Turners are currently working with Dr. Sarita Shresta of Nepal whose specialty is in women’s health. Dr. Shresta is a rare gem; she brings such heart and compassion to her work and she is one of the very few practitioners that is both a degreed Medical Doctor and an Ayurvedic Doctor.
In addition to Susan’s training and experience in Ayurveda, she has 12 years experience as a licensed Registered Nurse in critical care. Prior to her nursing career Susan was a paramedic for 10 years. She has studied western herbology with Dr. Tierona Low Dog, a leading expert in botanical medicine, integrative health and drug/herb interactions.
The Turners have broadened their expertise in Functional Medicine receiving training from Dr. Datis Kharrazian in Functional Blood Chemistry, Endocrinology, Immunology and Neurology. Functional Medicine integrates these four medical fields providing permanent solutions to complex and difficult health issues.
The Turners are trained in Applied Kinesiology. Applied Kinesiology is a scientific diagnostic method used to gain information about the level of health and functionality of the body’s organs, the integrity of the body’s skeletal and muscular system and body’s response to a host of biological factors including allergies, heavy metals, pathogens, nutrition and energetic influences. Jeff has done additional studies in Advanced Clinical Kinesiology with Dr. John Bandy in Austin, Texas.
Jeff has had the good fortune to study hands-on energetic healing with Carolyn Silver and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, founder of Body-Mind Centering®. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.
The common thread connecting all of the Turner’s training is the importance of finding the true underlying cause of each patient’s disease. Finding the true underlying cause and treating at this level results in permanent solutions to challenging health issues. Treating in this way, verses only palliating symptoms, truly cures health issues and allows the body to fully recover, symptoms are eliminated and the body becomes truly healthy.
