Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. It is literally the Science of Life, the Science of Longevity. (Ayer = life. Veda = science, knowledge). Ayurveda emphasizes that health is a balanced and dynamic integration of body, mind, spirit, and environment.
Ayurveda incorporates individualized nutrition, lifestyle, and herbs for healing. It recognizes that each person is unique and thus, the nutrition (including timing, quantity, and combination of foods), lifestyle (including sleep, work, and play), and herbs that balance each will likewise be unique.
Ayurvedic practitioners use a variety of methods to differentiate the patient’s innate, healthy constitution, and thus the diet, lifestyle, and herbal modifications that would best heal and harmonize. As an Ayurvedic practitioner I strive to help my patients learn to better attune to and understand their unique constitution and specific imbalances so they can best take responsibility for their own rebalancing and self-care.
